♥♥♥    OUR HEARTBEAT    ♥♥♥

This upcoming Thursday, December 3 is Women of Heart's Christmas Brunch. We are pleased to have Brittney Vine from the Mustard Seed come and share her heart and this ministry with us. In addition we will have an opportunity to bless this community. We will also have time to write some special messages to those individuals who use the services of the Mustard Seed over the Christmas holidays. If you have extra blank Christmas cards bring them along! All are welcome and no registration in Women of Heart is required! (so feel free to bring a friend!)

Brunch will be included, as well as a time of worship and fellowship. There will also be a little information about the upcoming semester in January and a time to pre-register as well. We hope this time will be a kick-off to your Christmas season with an opportunity to serve just as Jesus has.

♥♥♥ OUR HEARTBEAT ♥♥♥

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.'" John 6:35
What is it that you want? Do you know that this was a question that Jesus asked his disciples? They wanted to know where he was staying, but I haven't been able to shake that question as if Jesus asked me, "what is it that you want?" And I found myself wondering, what do I really want? Is the way I am living my life reflective of what I want? And if not, then why the discrepancy?
But when I dig deep into these questions, I find that deep beneath the layers of wants and desires lies the deep hunger and thirst to know God, and have him make his home in my life. I want to know where he is staying, and I want to stay there too.
And so I ask you, "what is it that you want?"

This upcoming Thursday, October 22 is a chance to reconnect at Women of Heart. We have the chapel booked over the lunch hour to allow some extra time for fellowship. If you haven't been able to attend Women of Heart this semester but wanted to catch up with some of the friends you have made in the past, bring your lunch and come on out. We will have a video for the kids and will also be hosting our FreeCycle boutique. No registration required!

Also, this Thursday will also be our offering for our Children's Team in Childrens' Ministries.

Christmas Hamper season is upon us as well. This is a great opportunity for a family, small group, or class at Women of Heart to serve together. Please start praying if this is something that God would have you take part in. More information will be made available through the church or you can email me for further details as well. If you know of someone who would benefit by receiving a hamper please let me know.

Class Selections for Fall 2015!

Steal Away - Time With The Father
Facilitator TBA
So I wonder???  Do you want a sweeter, more intimate connection with God?  Do you want a faith in Jesus that is ready to stand strong and resilient no matter what crisis comes your way?  Here is one thing I know through experience---it is NOT THE CRISIS that builds spiritual muscle to overcome and thrive…the crisis just reveals what I am already made of.  I need to be spiritually fit…ready BEFORE the faith check or battle comes.
So how do I do that?  I have to carve time out to be in communion with God.  Simple and sure.  Our class provides a concrete time alone with our loving Father every week.  In the first half hour of our time together…We will be guided towards a portion of God’s Word to explore, examine and meditate on together.  We then will use this passage as connecting/communion point with God – to come before Him to pray – study – worship – meditate – listen – or just rest in His presence.  Each morning we will also connect with each other and pray.

Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord.                                      - Lamentations 2:19

Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin
Facilitator Deborah Carnduff
We all know that it's important to study God's word. But sometimes it's hard to know where to start. What's more, a lack of time, emotionally-driven approaches, and past frustrations can erode our resolve to keep growing in our knowledge of Scripture and of God. How can we, as Christian women, keep our focus and sustain our passion when reading God's Word?
This study offers a clear and concise plan to help you go deeper in your study of Scripture, it will equip you to read God's word in a way that trains your mind and transforms your heart.
As we learn this new and simple model of how to study the bible from Jen Wilkin's book, we will be walking through the Gospel of Mark.
Cost of book: $14.00 (Available for purchase at CSC Resource Centre)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. -Proverbs 9:10

Breaking Free by Beth Moore
Facilitator Sue Mitchell
In Breaking Free, Beth Moore looks at the Book of Isaiah through the lives of the kings who ruled during this prophet's ministry. These kings exemplify many of the obstacles to freedom with which we must deal. Using Scripture to help identify spiritual strongholds in your life, no matter how big or small, Beth explains that anything that hinders us from the benefits of knowing God is bondage. God intends for you to know and believe Him, glorify Him, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence.
Cost of book: $20.75 (Available for purchase at CSC Resource Centre)

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.                                                                                                                       - Galatians 5:1

Building Missional Community – When Helping Hurts
Facilitator Pam Wolfe
Helping Without Hurting is a video-based study from the authors of the bestselling book, “When Helping Hurts” – a paradigm forming contemporary classic on the subject of poverty alleviation. This class will explore the principles of “helping without hurting”. Participants will be challenged to apply these principles within the intercultural setting of Calgary, in our neighborhoods as well as through the lens of short term missions. It lays foundational understanding in the prevention of inadvertent harm when interacting with materially poor communities. This class is an ideal precursor for any who desire to participate as a member of the Women’s Ministry Urban Calgary MTO, July 2016. Winter & Spring 2016 sessions will be used for team building and preparation for this MTO with more info on Nov 26.

Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."                 - Mark 1:14-15

A Way of Life – VantagePoint3
**Required Pre-Requisite–Completion VP3 The Journey**
Facilitator Cindy Martin
God is up to something good. A Way of Life encourages greater attention to and alignment with God’s gracious way in your life, your community and the world. Three overarching themes will structure the learning: friendship with God, community with others, and mission on the way. At its core, A Way of Life invites you into a set of reflections, practices and relationships that will help you explore and sustain a way of life faithful to God’s good work.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.                                                                                   - Psalm 139:23–24

Children’s Ministry and Homeschooling Group
Victoria Schellenberg, Dianne Rogers and Morgan Milia
Are you looking for an opportunity to serve while having a lot of fun?  Do you love babies, toddlers, preschoolers, big kids?  Would you like to be part of a Christ-centered team?  We love to do life together and one way we can do that is through serving the Lord as well as mom's & children in our very own WoH community.  With a homeschool group starting up this term we are especially excited to have ladies join us in this brand new ministry.
Our Children's Team has a vision to sear the truth of God's Word onto the tablet of each child's heart who attends our Thursday morning program.  We are committed to being a place of kindness, where children and their mom's feel loved as we seek to instil Christ's truth as we teach and serve the children entrusted to our care.  We'd love to have you join us!

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.                                                                                                                                               - Proverbs 3:3

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.'" John 6:35

Another season of Women of Heart is just around the corner. This upcoming year we will be wrapping up our themes on the fruit of the Spirit. Self-control will be woven into our community as we plan out our year. In addition, we have considered those catalysts that help individuals move along their spiritual walk to maturity and have specifically picked classes that will focus on these things.

Classes in consideration for this fall include:
Quiet Time with the Father
Women of the Word
Breaking Free
Building Missional Community (When Helping Hurts)
VP3 A Way of Life

We are still looking for volunteers in all areas: Co-facilitators and table leaders for classes, behind the scenes planning for all group events and volunteer appreciation events, regular and occasional helpers in children's ministry, weekly set-up and clean-up, prayer team, tech help, weekly check-in, semester registration, or anything else that you feel called to that would enrich our community! Prayerfully consider if this is a place that God is calling you to. We will be having our planning meeting this upcoming September 3, 9:30-11:00 in the chapel at the main campus. I'd love for you to come out and learn more about our community. If you are looking at going deeper in a spiritual community this is a great place to start! Hope to see you there!

Our kick-off brunch this year will take place this Thursday, September 17th from 9:15-11:00 in the chapel at the Main Campus. Childcare will be available starting at 9:00, after which you will have time to reconnect with friends, enjoy some food together, and of course hear from our facilitator's. There will be time to register for classes afterwards (bringing cheque or cash makes the lines go faster but ATM's will be available). You can check out our blog at woh-women-of-heart.blogspot.com over the next week as we finalize our semester details (particularly after the 3rd).

Looking forward to seeing you on the 17th!

Class Choices - Spring Semester 2015!

Essentials of Parenting: The Power of Love
Facilitator Janet Zacharias
We all would like to have a better relationship with our children!  We have chosen this study to gain insights on this important goal.  In this video series Essentials of Parenting: The Power of Love, authorities like Gary Thomas, Dr. Bob Barnes, Julie Ann Barnhill, and Carey Casey show how to enrich and enjoy the bond between your child and yourself.  We will also be memorizing some Scripture together and praying together at the end of each session.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Art & Soul: The Guild
Facilitator Cara Burtis assisted by Monica Beckett
This is a group led initiative of open studio time.  Our purpose is to create worship to our Holy God as a group by creating art.  Painting supplies, stencils and stamps will be provided.  We’re keeping our cost low this semester so that each guild member can be free to spend the extra on a mixed media or watercolor or acrylic type art journal or supplies that fit their artwork best.  We are recommending an art journal so there is a place to creatively return as we each work through your art with the focus of worshiping the Lord.  We will ALL shoulder the prep, clean up and spiritual depth together as a group with each member taking responsibility in 2 or more areas.  Come and worship the Lord with us.
Material Costs: $10.00 (covers all your supplies)

Interior Design and Pondering God’s Design for Our Lives
Facilitator Jennifer Flanders
A crash course in Interior Design with no experience necessary!  In five weeks we will look at some design basics and you will learn lots of practical decorating skills while creating a plan for a room in your own home.  Each week we will also discuss a related theme about God’s design for our lives.
Material Costs: $20.00 (covers all your supplies)

The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands by Lysa TerKeurst
Facilitator Melanna Heebner
Are you living with the stress of an overwhelmed schedule and aching with the sadness of an underwhelmed soul?  Lysa TerKeurst is learning that there is a big difference between saying yes to everyone and yes to God.  We will look at how to cure the “disease to please” with a biblical understanding of the command to love.  We will look at how to escape the guilt of disappointing others by learning the secret of the “small no”.  We will explore how to overcome the agony of hard choices by embracing a wisdom based decision-making process.  Finally we will look at the question of can we rise above the rush of endless demands and discover your best yes today.
Book available for purchase at the CSC Resource Centre - Cost $18.00

Faith and Fitness - **CLASS PRESENTLY AT CAPACITY**
Facilitators Megan Kreba, Megan Burwash
Please join us as we love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  This group will meet to glorify God as we exercise our bodies, memorize Scripture as a group, and pray for each other's needs.  All levels of physical and spiritual fitness are encouraged to participate!
Book 'Every Body Matters' available for purchase at the CSC Resource Centre - Cost $17.55 for WoH registrants

Steal Away - Time With The Father

Study by Vantage Point3
Facilitators Cindy Martin & Roxanne Elenko
Is there more to this Christian life than I am currently experiencing?  In our busy and intense lives when do we honestly and seriously reflect and talk with one another about our life with the Lord?  This class offers processes and relationships where we can explore with deep meaning and intention three questions - Questions of intimacy with God, of our identity in God as His beloved children, and of our kingdom purpose.

Women of Heart's Spring Semester kicks off this Thursday, from 9:15am in the chapel at the main campus. This is a great time to check us out or bring a friend as we run a short spring semester - 7 weeks in total with a kick-off and wind-up, and 5 weeks of small group time in between. We will end our year with an in house ministry fair to spring board you into the summer!
Strength in Gentleness"Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Classes this semester include:
Essentials of Parenting: The Power of Love
Art & Soul: The Guild
Interior Design and Pondering God’s Design for Our Lives

Childcare will be available starting at 9am, after which you will have time to reconnect with friends, enjoy some food together, and of course hear from our facilitator's. The cost for registration for the semester is only $20 though some classes do have extra book or material fees. Bringing cheque or cash makes the lines go faster but ATM's will be available.

As with semesters in the past, we need extra hands in childcare on our registration dates as often we have lots of newcomers. Class choice will be guaranteed for volunteers in childcare on this day. If you would like to volunteer, please email me. In addition, this semester our women's classes will not be assigned a day in children's ministry due to the shortened length of the semester. As a result we will be running short of helpers for the entire semester. If you are interested in volunteering a day or for the semester please let me know!

You can find more about Women of Heart and our classes on our blog at http://woh-women-of-heart.blogspot.ca Keep checking back as updates will be made regularly this week in preparation for this semester.

On Thursday at Women of Heart, over 80 women gathered together to hear from Carol Morris and Prison Ministry. We worked collectively to bless that ministry by purchasing and wrapping 20 gifts for kids of those who are incarcerated. Using a portion of our registration fees, our community also purchased numerous Bible Promise Books for the Prison Ministry. We were able to write words of encouragement or favourite Bible verses on the inside cover to bless those who have been incarcerated.
Since then, Carol has reported that 27 men and 8 women have stepped forward to receive Christ in their lives! Be encouraged! God is working and moving in this ministry and we were able to have a small part in supporting them! Thanks so much for your generosity!

This upcoming week at Women of Heart we will be having an extended chapel time following classes. Bring your lunch (or purchase one in the cafe) and be blessed by a time of community. Feel free to stay together as a class and use this time to get to know each other better, or feel free to use this time to catch up with those you haven't seen for a while. No need to be registered this semester to attend!
In addition, we will be collecting our final offering for the year for our children's ministry. These are the funds we use to help offer a stipend to our regular group of children's helpers. It costs us about $8700 for the year to operate in this way, and at this point, we have yet to meet our portion that we committed to raise for the year. We are looking for 7 donations of $30, 4 donations of $50, 3 donations of $100, 2 donations of $250, and 1 donation of $500. Thank you to everyone who has already donated to this ministry. We could not operate as we do without your contributions.

Have a great week and I hope to see you this Thursday!

Class Choices - Winter 2015!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WOMEN SAY YES TO GOD? - Study by Lysa TerKeurst
  **THIS CLASS IS CURRENTLY FULL**
Facilitator Amy Koslowski
What Happens When Women Say Yes to God is not about saying yes to tasks and people, it's about learning to say yes to God himself. It's about learning to love him fully and not focus on what you 'should do'.
Join us for this video series. We'll be using a participant’s guide.
Participant’s guide is available at Appleseed for purchase for $12.00

EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY WOMEN
Study by Geri Scazzero
Facilitator Megan Kreba
In "The Emotionally Healthy Woman" we will explore behaviours, thought patterns and habits that hinder our ability to truly live freely in God's grace. When we can identify areas in our life that need "quitting" and have the courage to do so we can begin to experience life with renewed joy and appreciation for how He created us as unique individuals. Geri Scazzero says "Something breaks inside of us when we finally say, 'No more.' But it must be done for the right reasons, at the right time, and in the right way." This will be a journey that requires some courage and vulnerability but freedom can be found on the other end of it.  We will be using a participant’s guide.
Participant’s guide is available at Appleseed for purchase for $18.25

ART & SOUL
  **THIS CLASS IS CURRENTLY FULL**
Facilitators Cara Burtis & Monica Beckett
Creating mix media art with the purpose of soul time with the Father.  We are connecting our time of prayer and worship in expressions of creativity allowing them to be expressed in many different ways onto canvas.  One great reason would be to remember what God is saying to you in your everyday life… another reason is a chance to connect with your heart in a creative manner… As so many of us cannot do in our daily routines.  Come and join us with a heart ready to res and express beautiful truth onto a paper or canvas.
Material costs - $30.00

JESUS – THE ONE AND ONLY - LUKE
Study by Beth Moore
Facilitator Janet Zacharias
We are about halfway through our study of the life of Jesus based on the book of Luke, and you are welcome to join us! This study introduces us to an intimate Savior as we get a close-up and personal portrait of the life of Jesus the Messiah. You'll see Jesus come to a funeral and raise the dead, confront conniving religious leaders, teach on a hillside, and even walk on the waves. Our in-depth Bible study currently alternates between a video session class, with Beth Moore teaching, and a discussion class where we look together at our responses to the previous weeks teaching. The accompanying study guide is recommended but not required.
Participant’s guide available for purchase at Appleseed for $18.50

JAMES BIBLE STUDY

Facilitators Victoria Schellenberg & Ann Webb
How well do our lives mirror the transforming faith that we proclaim through Jesus Christ?  For James, faith was not an abstract concept but a way of life that impacted the world through actions and speech.  Let’s dig into the book of James together to encourage one another as we study what God’s word teaches us about faith during trials, the impact of our words, God’s wisdom and lots more!
No additional resources required – Bible only

PURSUING GOD’S LOVE - STORIES FROM THE BOOK OF GENESIS
Study by Margaret Feinberg
Facilitator Karen Van Reisen
"The book of Genesis reminds us that God has been telling our love story since the foundations of the world.  God is all-powerful, all-knowing, abounding in imagination, creativity, mystery, and wisdom.  And even when we question God's love or act in disobedience, God pursues us.  This six-session Bible study is designed to take participants through the book of Genesis and explore the unflinching love of our Creator."  We will be using a participant's guide.
Participant's guide is available for purchase at Appleseed for $13.00

God yearns to have first priority with us and for us to have enough open space in our lives for Him to move and speak to us bringing about a new depth of relationship with Him.  This class will provide a setting for time alone with our loving Father.  There will be margin to pursue what God has placed on your heart; whether that be time to come before Him to pray – study –worship – meditate – listen – or just rest in His presence.  Each morning we will also connect with each other, pray and explore some new ways to connect with God.
No outside resources needed – bring your Bible.
