Volunteer Leaders 2012/2013
Team of Servant Leaders
The Leader core prays for each participant and is responsible for planning, decisions, financial accountability and empowering volunteers for worthwhile purposes.
Community Leader
Roxanne Elenko
When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was he replied, "To love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And to love your neighbour as yourself." This is exactly what Women of Heart sets out to do. This community enables women from all different walks of life to love God more - through different classes that touch on different themes - and to love others more - by coming together in community to reach out to those around them with the love of Christ. By being part of Women of Heart I am able to live out the greatest commandment that Jesus preached. What an awesome blessing!
Co-Community Leader
Verna Ratzlaff
I love volunteering at Women of Heart because I am available during the day midweek. I love investing my time and life in others and am grateful that WofH gives me that opportunity to connect with women who are interested and inquiring about life and God. I am grateful for the richness of life experience that I have and want to pass on the resources I've been blessed with while learning and growing personally at the same time. I am totally happy to be in a support role that allows others to build their leadership skills. I am excited that a small group of women can make a difference by banding together, praying together and doing life together all for the glory of God.

What drew me to volunteering at WofH – after attending for a session and “receiving” – I wanted to serve and give back to the community that had blessed me...
Communications Leader
This team is responsible to help with the registration process, weekly check-in, manage class lists and communication folders, WofH Blog, reminders and information.
Lyn Jessee
I was introduced to Women of Heart about 6 months after I moved to Calgary (2006), by Beth. I did not know anyone in Calgary, except some family members. Women of Heart saved me from loneliness. I have been giving back time with volunteering, but not near as much as I receive. I cannot imagine not coming to Women of Heart, as I get such great joy and companionship from contributing my time, participating in classes , and being around all you great women. I feel very blessed.
Missions/ Prayer Team Leader
This team is responsible for prayer and practical ministry, Care in Deed, Mission Projects, Service projects for the group.
Verna Ratzlaff (interim)
Tech Team Leader
This team is responsible for learning and running sound equipment, preparing powerpoint slides and communicating weekly, recognition for our volunteers.

What draws me to volunteering with Women of Heart...
I enjoy helping out with the tech stuff at Women of Heart because it provides an interesting challenge for me where I get to learn new skills and explore my creativity. This type of “behind the scenes” work is great to do at my leisure during the week to help me stay connected.
More than anything else, I love volunteering at Women of Heart so that I can help bless others in the way I have been blessed in the past. It is a great way to connect with more of the women on different levels, and gives you a chance to meet more people outside of your class.
Small Group Facilitators Team Leader
This team is responsible for building WofH culture amoung small group participants.Morgan Milia
Childcare Ministry Team Leader
This team is responsible for providing a safe, loving environment for the children and their caregivers.Terra McKinnon

Someone once told me I would make a good facilitator. I don't get many compliments so I dove right in. Just kidding. I enjoy people and when I started coming to Women of Heart I was a new mom and enjoyed the strong leadership from others. I really felt like Women of Heart was a place to connect and get filled up. I feel like God is asking me to give back to a community that has so generously given to me. I love learning alongside others and appreciate so much what Women of Heart does!
Christy Fowler
I first came to WofH because I felt God was telling me to "go make friends!". Attending WofH has enabled me to make friends that share my faith and has also begun to clarify the Lord's calling for me. I'm excited to see what He has in store for the future!
Karla Lysak
I was drawn to volunteering at WofH because I feel God has
asked me to give a little bit back to Him after He gave me SO MUCH. I started
attending WofH just after we moved to Calgary, my husband had been diagnosed
with cancer; started chemo and I
had a 4 week old baby. God lead me to
WofH and He met me here through a dozen womens’ faces, prayers and hugs. He provided a caring, calm, Christ centered
group of friends whom I have cherished and grown to love. My prayer is that I can love others the way
Christ has loved me.
I started coming to Women of Heart near the end of the 2011 spring term. On my second time attending, there was a group session and it was an incredible show of community and women supporting each other. That cemented my decision to become an active part of WofH. I attended all three terms last year and loved my classes and getting to know other women. Women of Heart really has become the highlight of my week! This year, I decided to get more involved with class facilitating. I love to read inspiring books and then discuss them and challenge each other to apply some of the concepts to our lives.

Facilitator: Pat van Boeschoten

Everyone starts somewhere and the Bible meets you where you are. Beginning with the Gospel of Mark, we pray it will be a significant point in your life and we look forward to getting to know you better.

7. True Woman 101: Divine Design by Mary Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Facilitator: Deborah Carnduff
Assistant: Nicole Kirkham
Description:
http://vimeo.com/31433669
The current cultural ideal of womanhood encourages women to be strident, sexual, self-centered, independent and – above all – powerful and in control But sadly, this model of womanhood hasn’t delivered the happiness and fulfillment it promised inside of marriages or in singleness! Together, in this class, we will go on a journey to explore what God says in the Bible beginning in Genesis, about why He created male and female. His design isn’t by accident, unimportant or expendable. His design is so much more valuable than the world’s cheap imitations and knockoffs – it uncovers that women are molded and shaped – tethered to and enabled by Christ and His gospel. God’s women reject the world’s pattern for womanhood and gladly wear God’s Designer label instead!

9. One in a Million by: Priscilla Evans Shirer
Facilitator: Jillian Melle
The Egyptians in Exodus 1 were intent on enslaving the Israelites, wearing them down so that God’s chosen people would become disillusioned and not live up to their destiny. Of the original two million Israelites who received God’s invitation to enter the Promised Land, only two actually entered it! Similarly, modern day Christians often hear and understand the promises of God each Sunday morning at church but then rarely choose to experience them in everyday life. In One in
a Million, Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer invites us to change that pattern for good, living beyond our circumstances and expecting to see God move in miraculous ways day after day. Without a doubt, we can find and follow God’s purpose for our journey. We can make it to the Promised Land!
