♥♥♥    OUR HEARTBEAT    ♥♥♥

This upcoming Thursday, December 3 is Women of Heart's Christmas Brunch. We are pleased to have Brittney Vine from the Mustard Seed come and share her heart and this ministry with us. In addition we will have an opportunity to bless this community. We will also have time to write some special messages to those individuals who use the services of the Mustard Seed over the Christmas holidays. If you have extra blank Christmas cards bring them along! All are welcome and no registration in Women of Heart is required! (so feel free to bring a friend!)

Brunch will be included, as well as a time of worship and fellowship. There will also be a little information about the upcoming semester in January and a time to pre-register as well. We hope this time will be a kick-off to your Christmas season with an opportunity to serve just as Jesus has.

♥♥♥ OUR HEARTBEAT ♥♥♥

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.'" John 6:35
What is it that you want? Do you know that this was a question that Jesus asked his disciples? They wanted to know where he was staying, but I haven't been able to shake that question as if Jesus asked me, "what is it that you want?" And I found myself wondering, what do I really want? Is the way I am living my life reflective of what I want? And if not, then why the discrepancy?
But when I dig deep into these questions, I find that deep beneath the layers of wants and desires lies the deep hunger and thirst to know God, and have him make his home in my life. I want to know where he is staying, and I want to stay there too.
And so I ask you, "what is it that you want?"

This upcoming Thursday, October 22 is a chance to reconnect at Women of Heart. We have the chapel booked over the lunch hour to allow some extra time for fellowship. If you haven't been able to attend Women of Heart this semester but wanted to catch up with some of the friends you have made in the past, bring your lunch and come on out. We will have a video for the kids and will also be hosting our FreeCycle boutique. No registration required!

Also, this Thursday will also be our offering for our Children's Team in Childrens' Ministries.

Christmas Hamper season is upon us as well. This is a great opportunity for a family, small group, or class at Women of Heart to serve together. Please start praying if this is something that God would have you take part in. More information will be made available through the church or you can email me for further details as well. If you know of someone who would benefit by receiving a hamper please let me know.

Extended Chapel and Freecycle Boutique this Thursday!

Hello ladies of Women of Heart!

This Thursday, October 22, we will be having extended time in the chapel!
Please pick up your children after classes at the usual pickup time of 11:00 am, then head to the chapel to share some extra time of fellowship with your class and all the ladies of the community.  Feel free to bring lunch from home or you can purchase lunch at the cafe and bring it up to the chapel.  Also, there will be a video playing for the kids!

We will also be setting up our annual FreeCycle Boutique.  Please bring items you no longer treasure (in good working condition, nothing chipped or broken), place them on the rectangular tables in the chapel, and then shop for free from the other things people bring!

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Class Selections for Fall 2015!

Steal Away - Time With The Father
Facilitator TBA
So I wonder???  Do you want a sweeter, more intimate connection with God?  Do you want a faith in Jesus that is ready to stand strong and resilient no matter what crisis comes your way?  Here is one thing I know through experience---it is NOT THE CRISIS that builds spiritual muscle to overcome and thrive…the crisis just reveals what I am already made of.  I need to be spiritually fit…ready BEFORE the faith check or battle comes.
So how do I do that?  I have to carve time out to be in communion with God.  Simple and sure.  Our class provides a concrete time alone with our loving Father every week.  In the first half hour of our time together…We will be guided towards a portion of God’s Word to explore, examine and meditate on together.  We then will use this passage as connecting/communion point with God – to come before Him to pray – study – worship – meditate – listen – or just rest in His presence.  Each morning we will also connect with each other and pray.

Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord.                                      - Lamentations 2:19

Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin
Facilitator Deborah Carnduff
We all know that it's important to study God's word. But sometimes it's hard to know where to start. What's more, a lack of time, emotionally-driven approaches, and past frustrations can erode our resolve to keep growing in our knowledge of Scripture and of God. How can we, as Christian women, keep our focus and sustain our passion when reading God's Word?
This study offers a clear and concise plan to help you go deeper in your study of Scripture, it will equip you to read God's word in a way that trains your mind and transforms your heart.
As we learn this new and simple model of how to study the bible from Jen Wilkin's book, we will be walking through the Gospel of Mark.
Cost of book: $14.00 (Available for purchase at CSC Resource Centre)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. -Proverbs 9:10

Breaking Free by Beth Moore
Facilitator Sue Mitchell
In Breaking Free, Beth Moore looks at the Book of Isaiah through the lives of the kings who ruled during this prophet's ministry. These kings exemplify many of the obstacles to freedom with which we must deal. Using Scripture to help identify spiritual strongholds in your life, no matter how big or small, Beth explains that anything that hinders us from the benefits of knowing God is bondage. God intends for you to know and believe Him, glorify Him, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence.
Cost of book: $20.75 (Available for purchase at CSC Resource Centre)

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.                                                                                                                       - Galatians 5:1

Building Missional Community – When Helping Hurts
Facilitator Pam Wolfe
Helping Without Hurting is a video-based study from the authors of the bestselling book, “When Helping Hurts” – a paradigm forming contemporary classic on the subject of poverty alleviation. This class will explore the principles of “helping without hurting”. Participants will be challenged to apply these principles within the intercultural setting of Calgary, in our neighborhoods as well as through the lens of short term missions. It lays foundational understanding in the prevention of inadvertent harm when interacting with materially poor communities. This class is an ideal precursor for any who desire to participate as a member of the Women’s Ministry Urban Calgary MTO, July 2016. Winter & Spring 2016 sessions will be used for team building and preparation for this MTO with more info on Nov 26.

Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."                 - Mark 1:14-15

A Way of Life – VantagePoint3
**Required Pre-Requisite–Completion VP3 The Journey**
Facilitator Cindy Martin
God is up to something good. A Way of Life encourages greater attention to and alignment with God’s gracious way in your life, your community and the world. Three overarching themes will structure the learning: friendship with God, community with others, and mission on the way. At its core, A Way of Life invites you into a set of reflections, practices and relationships that will help you explore and sustain a way of life faithful to God’s good work.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.                                                                                   - Psalm 139:23–24

Children’s Ministry and Homeschooling Group
Victoria Schellenberg, Dianne Rogers and Morgan Milia
Are you looking for an opportunity to serve while having a lot of fun?  Do you love babies, toddlers, preschoolers, big kids?  Would you like to be part of a Christ-centered team?  We love to do life together and one way we can do that is through serving the Lord as well as mom's & children in our very own WoH community.  With a homeschool group starting up this term we are especially excited to have ladies join us in this brand new ministry.
Our Children's Team has a vision to sear the truth of God's Word onto the tablet of each child's heart who attends our Thursday morning program.  We are committed to being a place of kindness, where children and their mom's feel loved as we seek to instil Christ's truth as we teach and serve the children entrusted to our care.  We'd love to have you join us!

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.                                                                                                                                               - Proverbs 3:3

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.'" John 6:35

Another season of Women of Heart is just around the corner. This upcoming year we will be wrapping up our themes on the fruit of the Spirit. Self-control will be woven into our community as we plan out our year. In addition, we have considered those catalysts that help individuals move along their spiritual walk to maturity and have specifically picked classes that will focus on these things.

Classes in consideration for this fall include:
Quiet Time with the Father
Women of the Word
Breaking Free
Building Missional Community (When Helping Hurts)
VP3 A Way of Life

We are still looking for volunteers in all areas: Co-facilitators and table leaders for classes, behind the scenes planning for all group events and volunteer appreciation events, regular and occasional helpers in children's ministry, weekly set-up and clean-up, prayer team, tech help, weekly check-in, semester registration, or anything else that you feel called to that would enrich our community! Prayerfully consider if this is a place that God is calling you to. We will be having our planning meeting this upcoming September 3, 9:30-11:00 in the chapel at the main campus. I'd love for you to come out and learn more about our community. If you are looking at going deeper in a spiritual community this is a great place to start! Hope to see you there!

Our kick-off brunch this year will take place this Thursday, September 17th from 9:15-11:00 in the chapel at the Main Campus. Childcare will be available starting at 9:00, after which you will have time to reconnect with friends, enjoy some food together, and of course hear from our facilitator's. There will be time to register for classes afterwards (bringing cheque or cash makes the lines go faster but ATM's will be available). You can check out our blog at woh-women-of-heart.blogspot.com over the next week as we finalize our semester details (particularly after the 3rd).

Looking forward to seeing you on the 17th!
