Strength in Gentleness

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Class Choices - Fall 2014 - Choose from the first Six!!!

1. Art and Soul - Facilitator – Cara Burtis
Materials - $10.00
Resource book from Appleseed -  Jesus Calling by Sarah Young ($19.50) or Jesus Calling digital app $9.99
If your love for art and your desire to get creative time just does not work with your life,  this class is for you. Creativity interwoven with Worship is our goal!  I Iook forward to teaching a bit of Mix media, watercolors, painting & stamping.  Things to try just for the sake of enjoyment and learning... along with a focus brought by music and an inspirational phrase or passage from the Bible to help inspire us to use our Art as an act of Worship.  Bring your own project if you like, we have space  for any form of creativity! We will move through a new lesson every few weeks including one for Knitting & Crochet. Enjoying the book or app for Jesus Calling by Sarah Young at home will complement what we do in class.

2. Becoming Myself – Facilitator Team – Dorothy Sessa, Megan Burwash
Resource book from Appleseed - Becoming Myself - by Staci Eldridge - (Price? )
Daughter of the King, Bride of Christ, Friend of Jesus, women who long to be loved, chosen and become a priority to someone.  Jesus longs to be loved by you, chosen by you and be your priority.  Get to know the heart of God. Stumble into freedom and embrace the real you.  You will be more beautiful, compassionate, more accepting of human beings and become real good friends with you.  Gal 5:1 – It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

3. Beth Moore: Jesus the One and Only - Facilitator -  Janet Zacharias
Resource study guide from Appleseed -  Jesus the One and Only ($17.50)
Join us and Beth Moore in a full year study of the life of Jesus based on the book of Luke. You will be introduced to to an intimate Savior as you get a close-up and personal portrait of the life of Jesus the Messiah. You'll see Jesus come to a funeral and raise the dead, confront conniving religious leaders, teach on a hillside, and even walk on the waves. This in-depth Bible study will alternate between a video session class, with Beth Moore teaching, and a discussion class where we look together at our responses to the previous weeks teaching. The accompanying study guide is recommended but not required.

4. Discerning the Voice of God (by Priscilla Shirer) - Facilitator - Pam Wolfe
Resource study guide from Appleseed - ($12)
Having a hard time knowing what God is saying versus what others are saying? This DVD Bible study is designed to help women know the voice of God: His language, character, and tone of voice. By growing closer to God through His Word, women will be able to discern God's voice from the voice of strangers. Light homework required.

5. Ruth - The Romance of RedemptionFacilitator – Monica Beckett
Ruth is one of only two women who have a book in the Bible. God singles out this woman - that we might know her story and that we might know God through this Romance. Ruth has all of life's circumstances stacked against her: she is an outsider, a widow without children, destitute with no income. She appears like she has nothing to offer but God doesn't see it that way. In fact, he makes her an ancestor of Jesus. Let's find out why and find out what God is redeeming in us as we study together.

6. Steal Away - Time With The Father - Facilitator Team - Deborah Carnduff, Colleen Ledene
God yearns to have first priority with us and to have enough open space in our lives for Him to move and speak to us bringing about a new depth of relationship with Him.  This class will provide a setting for time alone with our loving Father.  There will be margin to pursue what God has placed on your heart.  Whether it be time to come before Him to pray – study –worship – meditate – listen – or just rest in His presence.  Each morning we will also connect with each other, pray and explore some new ways to connect with God.

7. The Journey - Facilitator Team – Cindy Martin, Roxanne Elenko
(class is currently full) (a 3-semester study)

Is there more to this Christian life than I am currently experiencing?  In our busy and intense lives when do we honestly and seriously reflect and talk with one another about our life with the Lord?  This class offers processes and relationships were we can explore with deep meaning and intention three questions:
·       Questions of intimacy with God.
·       Questions of our identity in God as His beloved children.
·       Questions of our kingdom purpose.

♥♥♥    OUR HEARTBEAT    ♥♥♥
"Faith from God is Trusting in Jesus and Expressed as Love"

Good evening,

You are invited to Women of Heart this upcoming Thursday May 29 at 9:15 for a screening of the movie "Sex and Money". This documentary sheds light on the issue of domestic minor human trafficking and the modern day abolitionist movement to stop it. This past semester at Women of Heart we have focused on the final portion of our theme "Expressions of Love". We hope this movie will be eye opening and will encourage you to express love to some of those less fortunate in our city.

Please note that this film does cover mature themes and will not be appropriate for younger viewers. You can find the trailer and more information at http://sexandmoneyfilm.com
This morning will also be potluck style for snacks. Bring a light snack that is easy to share and easy to eat off your lap as the movie will run 93 minutes and take up the majority of our time together.

Tickets are still available for the MTO Cafe June 5 "What Happens When Women Say Yes to God."This event will challenge women to look outside their own schedules and make a tangible difference in the lives of women and children served by the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre. After seeing the movie this Thursday you may be wondering "What should I do now?"

Come and hear their stories... Come and be part of the journey... Be challenged towards acts of kindness and generosity.  Every ticket purchased will cover the cost of a journal to be gifted to clients of the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre. Tickets are available online at http://www.cschurch.ca/event/569509-2014-06-05-mto-cafe/

Another way to get involved this summer is to help out at the Mustard Seed. Centre Street Church sponsors dinner on the 4th Saturday of each month at the SE location of The Mustard Seed. Volunteering is done in 2 segments: preparation of the meal and then the serving/clean up and takes about 4.5 hours – from 4:00-8:30. Upcoming dates are July 26, August 23, September 27 and December 27. Please contact Shari Scott for more information or to get involved @  shari.scott@cschurch.ca

Women of Heart wraps up this week but you can still stay connected with other women at the Summer Connection Tuesday nights starting June 24 at 6:30. This summer's study will look at Ruth Haley Barton's book "Sacred Rhythms". You can find more information at http://www.cschurch.ca/event/590587-2014-06-24-summer-connections-womens-ministry/

Finally, if you have attended Women of Heart this past year we would really appreciate you taking the time to fill in our survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZG5T95G We will use this information to help us plan for the 2014/2015 year. We want to do our best to encourage you in your spiritual growth and offer classes and opportunities that will meet those needs. Please take the time to read the spiritual continuum found on our blog (link at the end of this email) before you complete the survey as it helps to explain the questions.

 "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who call you is faithful and he will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

LOL Fun and Faith - Message from Roxanne - WofH Community Leader

Psalm 51 "Delight yourself in the Lord"

From John Piper's book Desiring God...

"Once we had no delight in God, and Christ was just a vague historical figure. What we enjoyed was food and friendships and productivity and investments and vacations and hobbies and games and reading and shopping and sex and sports and art and TV and travel.. . but not God. He was an idea - even a good one - and a topic for discussion; but He was not a treasure of delight.

"Then something miraculous happened. It was like the opening of the eyes of the blind during the golden dawn. First the stunned silence before the unspeakable beauty of holiness. Then the shock and terror that we had actually loved the darkness. Then the settling stillness of joy that this is the soul's end. The quest is over. We would give anything if we might be granted to live in the presence of this glory forever and ever.

"And then, faith - the confidence that Christ has made a way for me, a sinner, to live in His glorious fellowship forever, the confidence that if I come to God through Christ, He will give the desire of my heart to share his holiness and behold His glory."

I love how the last paragraph so nicely tie togethers our faith proclamation portion of Trusting in Jesus and our morning of having fun and enjoying God in our faith!

For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
Psalm 91:1-4
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
 Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, pay attention to what I say;
    turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
    keep them within your heart;
 for they are life to those who find them
    and health to one’s whole body.
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.
Isaiah 58:11-12
The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.
 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
    Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
Luke 6:47-48
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose,
the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 12:9-13
 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
1 Corinthians 3:16-18
 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person;
for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age,
you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.
1 Corinthians 10:13

apart from me you can do nothing.

Faith Panelists Connection

 Pam Wolfe said, Jesus keeps showing up. As she shared her journey of moving from a "sin management" style of Christianity to one of day by day surrender to Jesus, Pam told of family encounters that God used to increase her faith.

Melanie Young said, God is telling me to keep trusting and praying. She told of questions she asks as life changed from the mission field to back in Calgary due to health issues. Being vulnerable about the hard stuff helps us all keep it real!

Jill Melle said it would have been her mom's birthday and twice today people shared her mom's favorite scripture and that was a gift from God to her heart. Her mom's life (finished at age 51 when Jill was just 26) and her mom's faith were significant gifts to nurture her own walk with God.

Angela Stockert explained how God has provided above and beyond as she and Ryan left the security of a regular job and career to make a movie and live by faith. They were inspired by George Muller's life of prayer and trust and sought God alone to meet each need.

With a march of 20 people quoting significant scripture verses, mostly by memory, sitting with old and new friends from the neighborhood and spontaneous table art, we enjoyed a plentiful potluck of food and faith!
