Fall Classes

Class Descriptions for Fall Semester

String ‘n’ Things – Stitching With Intention
Facilitator: Christy

Please join us this semester as we knit and crochet prayer shawls. This ministry will be a prayer-filled experience as we create meaningful shawls for those requiring prayer over them. As we stitch and pray together, we will be sharing the love of the trinity and infusing the love the Holy Spirit fills us with in our handiwork  If you don’t know how to knit or crochet you will be taught, as the shawl you will be creating can be as simple or as complex as you like.

Galatians
Facilitator: Chelsea

In this class we will study Paul's letter to the Galatians.  We'll be using Galatians For You and Galatians: Gospel Matters (both authored by Timothy Keller) as our guide but it won't be necessary to purchase or read either book - just bring your Bible!

"Galatians is all about the gospel - the gospel all of us need throughout all of our lives.  It's dynamite, and I pray that its powerful message explodes in your heart as you read this book." - Timothy Keller

As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur
Facilitators: Anita and Roxanne

What do you do when life doesn't turn out like you planned?
When disappointments smash their way into our lives, we may want to scream, "How could God let this happen?"

But what if God didn't just "let it happen"? What if the things we call disappointments are really His appointments - events He is using to make us more like Christ? What if our circumstances are actually the flames of His grace, intended to burn and melt away the undesirable elements in our lives, leaving us pure and radiant -like refined silver?

You can be defeated by life's unavoidable disappointments or you can become stronger because of them.

Justice Café
Facilitators: Carmen, Jennifer and Jennifer

Join a grassroots movement! This action group will continue to raise social awareness about cultural distortions of body image and sexuality, from internet pornography to the ads posted at “family friendly” malls. Our mission is to empower parents and educators to raise a generation of empathetic children who value innocence, recognize inner beauty, and advocate for others. Last semester, we created a presentation to educate parents on the media’s impact. Now we need to reach a larger audience.

Our group will entail a regular discussion/education time related to the topic of sexuality within our society and its effects on us, and then do strategic planning to get our message out. If you are a person passionate about this topic and want to learn more about how to make a change, this class is for you! We need internet surfers, current events enthusiasts, aspiring bloggers, administrative types, marketers, educators, artists, researchers,

prayers--or those who simply care about children. HELP IGNITE CHANGE!

The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian
Facilitator: Jill

Life is so busy with our kids, our jobs, and our to-do lists, that sometimes our husbands get left in the dust. Please consider joining me on this journey of lifting our husbands up to God in prayer. Today's challenges and pressures can make a fulfilling marriage seem like an impossible dream. Yet God delights in doing the impossible if only we would ask! Everyone woman who desires a closer relationship with her husband will appreciate this refreshing look at the power of prayer in marriage.

Believing God by Beth Moore
Facilitator: Susan

I'm excited as I begin this new Bible study series with Beth Moore. It's called "Believing God". Beth wants us to understand that life as a Christian is far more than just believing Jesus died for our sins and being forgiven. God wants to walk out each moment of our day with us. As we grow in the faith of believing this, and seeing and experiencing this, we just keep entering deeper and deeper into the amazing reality of God-with-us.

The classes will have a DVD part, and then a time for discussion and prayer. There are two ways you can approach this class. There is a wonderful work book designed to lead you in a personal bible study and reflective prayer and journal time. I would urge you to ask God to arrange time for you to fit it in, but there is NO guilt or shame if you don't do the book or miss chapters. Different stages and days of our lives are crazy with interruptions and demands and GOD KNOWS and accepts you at your stage. So, you can feel very free to just be inspired by listening to the DVDs each week without homework.

Body by God
Facilitator: Dustin

Registration for this class is now closed.

Designed to teach participants God's laws of health and healing so they are able to take control over their health and re-build the temple. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to walk in health. Topics discussed for preventative health care, family nutrition, fitness, toxicity, nerve supply and stress management. Sessions will include meal planning, 12-minute group fitness, Lose 20 lbs in 30 day challenge and Shop with the Doc training. Dr. Whitney shares the experience he has gained from working with thousands of families to create this life-changing workshop series. This program is designed to give you the time, the energy and discipline necessary to fulfill God's BIG WHY for your life and win your race.

Quiet Time with the Father
Facilitator: Angela

Remember your intimate times with Jesus before a husband and kids? Are you desiring to get back to that sweet place with The Lord even with a busy household? Take this time to have your "quiet time with The Father"; pray, read your Bible journal and walk with other women who are seeking the same thing. We will be using the devotional Ordinary Mom, Extraordinary God by Mary E. Demuth to encourage and prompt us in our quiet time throughout the week. Take advantage of this time without the rest of the family to get back to intimacy with God.

Alpha
Facilitators: Erin and Karen

You may have seen ads on TV recently that start with “Question everything.” Without explaining a lot the ad concludes with an invitation to find an Alpha group. This truly describes Alpha – a place where any question is worthy of asking and searching for answers. “Is there more to life than this? Why and how do I pray? Does God heal today?” The Alpha course looks at these and other questions, providing a practical introduction to the Christian faith. Alpha at WofH offers a format of 90 minutes that will include a fun connecting mixer and time to view a short video followed by discussion.

Compassion Care
Facilitators: Jutta and Wendy

Class Postponed until next Semester (January)

When others are hurting or facing difficult circumstances, how can you come alongside and be truly helpful. This group is about developing the skills to be effective doers of compassion. How do you listen and draw people out to connect on real issues. What is helpful to people in crisis, in grief, struggling with depression. People have complicated lives and they need people who will journey with them. Nothing is more healing for people than caring companions during difficult seasons. A caring helper can often be as helpful to an individual as a trained professional. This course will help you improve your caring skills.
